Hubert
is Austrian citizen and was born in Vorarlberg, the most western part
of Austria on the boarder to Switzerland .
He studied at the University of
Innsbruck and received his PhD in Chemistry, Mineralogy and Philosophy
in 1979. After a postdoctoral study at the Max-Planck-Institute in
Muehlheim-Ruhr/BRD he went back to his University, where he spent
eight years in research and teaching. In 1989 he joined the former
Sandoz Research Institute in Vienna, which changed organizational to
Novartis Institute for Biomedical Research Vienna. Hubert's research
in Combinatorial Chemistry is strongly connected with synthesis of
fluorescence labeled libraries and their application in drug
discovery. The patented "AIDA"-technology is one of the most advanced
development of his combinatorial research, which contributed already
successful to the companies drug discovery efforts. In 2003, he went
back to the University once more, now as an invited Guest-Professor
for Bioorganic Chemistry and Combinatorial Chemistry. Hubert is
a foundation member of the ESCS (now SCS) and
currently the Industry Representative of Austria. He supports the
Executive Board of SCS as the Treasurer, and is contributing to
several sub-committees of the SCS, respectively.
