Árpád Furka got his Ph.D. from University
of Szeged, Hungary in 1959 then he became a member of the Peptide
Research Group of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in Budapest. As a
recipient of a post doctoral fellowship of the National Research
Council of Canada in 1964, he worked for one year in the Departmant of
Biochemistry of University of Alberta in Edmonton. He joined Eötvös
Loránd University, Budapest, Hungary, in 1967 where he held the
position of Professor of Organic Chemistry from 1972 to 2001 when he
retired. From January 1995 to May 1999 he spent an extended sabbatical
at Advanced ChemTech, Inc., Louisville, KY, USA.
